ENSURING OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE OF THE COUNTY’S FLEET
The DGS Fleet Services Division provides fleet acquisitions, maintenance, fueling, and disposal services for the County of San Diego’s approximately 4,500 vehicles. This includes motorcycles, sedans, law enforcement vehicles, light-duty trucks and vans, fire apparatus, heavy-duty trucks, tractors, trailers, off-road and industrial equipment.
Our Fleet Maintenance team provides essential services to these vehicles from eight garages throughout the region that range in age from 9 to 60 years. These garages act as homebase to 55 staff, 8 mobile maintenance team members, and 29 fuel stations. Safe, efficient, and sustainable facilities are crucial to Fleet’s ability to provide quality maintenance services.
Rehabilitation of the East County Road Maintenance Station & Fleet Garage will provide the necessary infrastructure to maintain county vehicles that are geographically located in the area. The renovation will also allow for co-location with members of the DGS Facilities Operations team providing a better opportunity for threading and partnered operations. Pre-Construction efforts are slated for Fiscal Year 2026-27 with construction expected to begin in Fiscal Year 2028-29.
This investment in existing County infrastructure combined with workforce empowerment ensures the continuity of internal operations remains at its best and that the departments who depend on reliable vehicles to serve the residents of our community can carry out their tasks with peace of mind.
