Fiscal Transparency and Accountability

Each fiscal year, the County develops an annual budget based on anticipated revenue from County property taxes, the state and federal government and other sources, such as grants and fees. On June 24, 2025, the Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a structurally balanced budget through the County’s $8.63 billion Fiscal Year 2025-26 Operational Plan.

The County's Board of Supervisors has created a new Ad Hoc Fiscal Transparency and Accountability Subcommittee to help ensure taxpayer dollars are being used efficiently, responsibly, and in ways that benefit local residents. The Subcommittee is co-chaired by Supervisor Joel Anderson and Chair Pro-tem Paloma Aguirre. They will work closely with the County’s Chief Administrative Officer and staff.

Purpose of the Subcommittee

The subcommittee will review how the County spends and earns money through its many contracts and agreements—an area that totals about $2.2 billion per year. Its goal is to identify ways to:

• Reduce unnecessary costs
• Increase revenue for County services
• Improve contracting practices
• Strengthen accountability for vendors and service providers
